National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Sydney Carter Named National Merit Scholarship Finalist
Sydney Carter

Sydney Carter has been designated as a Finalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.  Sydney is one of only 15,000 students remaining from a pool of over 1.5 million students in the Class of 2021 from approximately 21,000 high schools nationwide who entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Students entered the program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Sydney was first selected as one of 15,000  Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

To become a Finalist, all Semifinalists and a high school official were required to submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provided information about the Semi-finalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. All Semifinalists were also required to have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and write an essay.

From the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists, about 15,000 were designated Finalists this February.

Comsewogue School District is so very proud of Sydney for this outstanding accomplishment!
