Seniors Recognized at Annual Varsity Senior Awards Night
On Monday, June 15, 2026, the Comsewogue Athletics Department held its annual Varsity Senior Awards for senior student-athletes and their families. The students’ athletic accomplishments during their time at Comsewogue High School were celebrated during the ceremony, with each coach from the fall, winter and spring sports teams having the opportunity to present awards to a senior who had an exceptional season.
During the ceremony, special awards are presented to student-athletes which are voted on by all of the varsity coaches who exemplify certain qualities and traits. A male and female student-athlete is chosen for each of the following categories: Most Outstanding Athlete, Most Improved Athlete, Spartan Leadership Award and Scholar Athlete.
This years’ recipients of the Most Outstanding Athlete award were Nicholas Saladino, Kamryn McCrary and Jayla Callender. Nicholas is a three-sport athlete and captain on the Varsity Football, Basketball and Lacrosse teams. A two-year Varsity starter for Football, Nicholas has led the team in yards from scrimmage and has excelled on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, while earning all-division honors twice. He is also a 2-year Varsity Boys Basketball starter, leading the team in both steals and deflections and a three-year Varsity Boys Lacrosse starter, twice earning all-division honors and being named a captain for the 2026 team. Kamryn has consistently proven herself as one of the top players in Suffolk County. She was named to the Newsday Top 100 lacrosse players on Long Island for both the 2025 and 2026 seasons and was a Captain for both the Varsity Lacrosse and Varsity Girls Soccer teams this year. She will be attending James Madison University in the Fall on an academic and athletic scholarship to play Division 1 Lacrosse. Jayla is a three-sport athlete, including being the starting goalkeeper on the Varsity Girls Soccer team, the first time ever playing this position. She was named to the Newsday Top 100 Basketball players list twice, and consistently earned all-county or all-conference honors. Jayla was also the starting quarterback for the inaugural Varsity Girls Flag Football team, ranking 25th on Long Island in rushing yards, passing yards and interceptions.
Gabrielle Sohngen and Dylan O’Connor were named the Most Improved Athletes. Gabrielle consistently strives for excellence, pushing her limits annually to excel in both field hockey and lacrosse. In field hockey, her dominant play across all facets of the game was vital to the team's achievements. As a lacrosse player, she stands out as one of the most coachable athletes on the team. Her significant skill development has earned her the opportunity to compete in Division 1 Lacrosse at Manhattan College in the fall of 2026. Dylan shined for the Varsity Boys Lacrosse team this year, leading them to a 14-3 record. Dylan did not start till his senior year and during his senior campaign he totaled 192 saves which ranked in the top 10 for Suffolk County.
Maggie Burrell and Dillon Order received the awards for top Scholar Athletes. Each of these senior student-athletes excelled both academically and athletically throughout their time at Comsewogue. Maggie was a member of both the Varsity Girls Basketball and Varsity Softball teams. Maggie earned All- County Honors in softball while maintaining a GPA of over 103. Dillon Order, a member of the Varsity Boys Tennis and Varsity Basketball teams, also maintained a GPA of over 103 and was named the Salutatorian for the Comsewogue High School Class of 2026. Dillon was also the Class President and student representative to the Board of Education for the 2025-2026 school year.
For the first time, the Spartan Leadership Award was also presented to one male and one female senior student-athlete. This award is given to those who exemplify profound leadership qualities on and off the field, and who have a history of being a role model to their teammates and to Comsewogue as a whole. Mikaela Knott and Brady Stonehill were chosen as the first recipients of this award. Mikaela is a two-sport varsity athlete and captain on both the Girls Soccer and Lacrosse teams. A highly coachable student-athlete, she consistently outworks everyone she faces, leads by example, and her responsibility and consistency make her a teammate everyone else wants to follow. Mikaela has committed to playing lacrosse as a Division 1 NCAA athlete at Wagner College. Brady, the captain of the Varsity Boys Volleyball team and our first official Spartan Mascot, modeled the discipline and focus required to compete at a high level. His communication on and off the court, directing defensive schemes and encouraging teammates, elevated the entire roster's performance throughout the year.
Comsewogue Athletics recognized students with the “Record Breaker” award for the second year. This award recognizes senior student-athletes who broke a school record in their respective sport during the 2025-2026 school year.
